IEP ADVOCACY & SCHOOL BASED SUPPORT

Helping Families Navigate the Special Education Process with Clarity and Confidence

The IEP process can feel overwhelming — full of unfamiliar terms, timelines, and decisions that impact your child’s education. My role is to help you understand each step, interpret the information you’re given, and advocate for services that truly support your child’s needs.

With more than 25 years of experience as both a speech language pathologist and a special education administrator, I bring a unique perspective that blends clinical expertise with deep knowledge of school systems, eligibility criteria, and service models.

What IEP Advocacy Includes

IEP advocacy is individualized and based on your child’s history, current needs, and school context. Support may include:

    • Interpreting school evaluations and reports

    • Identifying strengths, needs, and areas requiring clarification

    • Explaining eligibility categories and service recommendations

  • Helping you understand what to expect

    • Reviewing proposed goals, accommodations, and services

    • Creating a clear list of questions and priorities

    • Attending meetings with you (virtually or in person when available)

    • Helping you communicate concerns and requests effectively

    • Ensuring discussions remain focused on your child’s needs

    • Communicating with teachers, case managers, and related service providers

    • Clarifying progress data and service delivery

    • Supporting productive, childcentered problemsolving

    • Explaining procedural safeguards

    • Helping you navigate timelines, evaluations, and reevaluations

    • Ensuring you feel informed and empowered throughout the process

  • Families often share that they feel more confident, prepared, and supported after working together. My approach is:

    • Calm and clear — breaking down complex information into understandable steps

    • Collaborative — working with families and school teams respectfully and productively

    • Childcentered — keeping the focus on what helps your child learn and thrive

    • Informed by experience — grounded in years of schoolbased leadership and clinical practice

Advocacy is not about conflict — it’s about clarity, communication, and ensuring your child receives meaningful, appropriate support.

  • IEP advocacy may be helpful if you:

    • Are new to the special education process

    • Have concerns about your child’s progress

    • Want help understanding evaluation results

    • Need support preparing for an upcoming meeting

    • Feel unsure whether your child’s current services match their needs

    • Want a knowledgeable partner who understands both clinical and school based perspectives

  • When we work together, you can expect:

    • A thorough review of your child’s history and school documents

    • Clear explanations without jargon

    • A plan tailored to your goals and concerns

    • Support that respects your role as your child’s strongest advocate

    • Guidance that helps you feel prepared, informed, and confident

  • You don’t have to navigate the IEP process alone. My goal is to help you feel supported, informed, and empowered — with a partner who understands both the clinical and educational sides of special education.
